GO Month: Mental Clutter - Q

Let's celebrate Get Organized (GO) Month by ridding ourselves of mental clutter from A to Z!

To celebrate Get Organized (GO) Month I'm doing a series of posts on the mental clutter that can be just as pervasive as physical clutter. For each letter, I'll talk about a mental stumbling block that often impacts our well-being.

Let's focus on Q ... Qualms

Some of these alphabet letters are tougher than others, so work with me here. But we all have had qualms about one thing or another. A qualm is an uneasy feeling; a sudden feeling of apprehension that can tug on our conscience. People can feel guilt, doubt, or even sick over their qualms.

Often times we start on an organizing journey with the best of intentions, but then we can take up qualms with how it's going or the direction it's headed. We can feel disturbed by the daunting undertaking and hesitant to move forward.

Ways to have no qualms about a situation can include:

  • Think like a Buddhist - Don't prolong the past, Don't invite the future, Don't alter the present

  • Recognize the fact that you are neither superior nor inferior to others on the path to your goals and remain comfortable & confident with yourself

  • Use the 333 rule to calm your uneasiness - focus on 3 things you can see in your environment, 3 things you can touch, and 3 things you can hear - grounding yourself to the present moment

  • Take a break - if the situation is really putting you on edge, take a step back & refocus

  • Put down the coffee, soda, and energy drinks as caffeine can increase feelings of anxiety

"Go for it without qualms and forget about the naysayers."

Here's to freeing ourselves from the mental clutter of our qualms!

Please share with someone who needs a clearer mindset.
